Spring 2013 Capstone Festival

The Financial Aid Office is proud to announce the availability of 4 CSU Systemwide Scholarships during the 2013-2014 academic year. Applications must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office by March 29, 2013. Faxed applications are not accepted at this time.


Glenn and Dorothy Dumke Fellowship

Amount: $1,200
Deadline: March 29, 2013

The purpose of this fellowship is to encourage student scholars to engage in graduate work in fields such as public policy, American history, economics, archival management and government. Preference will be given to projects that involve research in the State of California. The winning scholar is expected to pursue research projects within special CSU library/archival collections.

Criteria

  • ­Applicants must be in good standing and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Applicants must be a CSU graduate student in the areas of public policy, American history, economics, archival management, or government during the 2013-2014 academic year.
  • The award must be used to pursue research projects within the Dumke Collection or other collections housed within the CSU archives at CSU Dominguez Hills, the Center for California Studies at CSU Sacramento, or other special collections within the CSU system.   • Personal Statement that addresses the following information -
    • The applicant’s interest in American history and/or California history; politics and economics of California; or similar areas of California studies
    • Any prior work in the areas listed above and how it relates to the State of California
    • The anticipated focus of the research project and a clearly defined plan of study
  • A Letter of Recommendation from a CSU faculty member
  • Official College Transcripts
     

Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship

Amount: $6,500
Deadline: March 29, 2013

The Dale M. Schoettler Scholarship for Visually Impaired Students was established in 1991. After Mr. Schoettler's death in 2001, the California State University received a $4.8 million bequest from his estate to expand the existing financial aid program for visually impaired students to all CSU campuses.

Criteria:

  • Applicants must currently have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 and must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.8 during the academic year in which the award is received.
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a full-time equivalent CSU undergraduate or graduate student in any major field and must remain a full-time equivalent CSU student during the academic year in which the award is received.
  • Applicants must be legally blind and provide verification from a physician which includes the best corrected vision acuity notations.

William Randolph Hearst/CSU Trustee's Scholarship

Amount: $3,000
Deadline: March 29, 2013

The awards recognize students who have overcome adversity, demonstrate financial need, and have attributes of merit including superior academic performance, significant personal achievements, and exemplary community service. The recipient who receives the highest score by the CSU selection committee is designated the Trustee Emeritus Ali C. Razi Scholar and will receive a $10,000 scholarship from an endowed fund established by Dr. Razi. The recipient who demonstrates the most outstanding community service is designated the Trustee Emeritus Murray L. Galinson Scholar and receives a $6,000 scholarship from an endowed fund established by Dr. Galinson. In addition there is a $6,000 Charles B. Reed scholarship for outstanding achievement.

Criteria:

  • Student must demonstrate superior academic performance with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be in good academic standing.
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the campus Financial Aid Office
  • Be currently enrolled as a full-time equivalent undergraduate or graduate student in any major field and must remain a CSU full-time equivalent student during the 2013- 2014 academic year.

  •  A current Official College Transcript including all undergraduate and graduate coursework completed
  • A brief Personal Statement describing the student’s
    • Personal background
    • challenges encountered
    • personal achievements
    • educational pursuits
    • community service, which should reflect a commitment to education and to the community
    • goals and aspirations for the future.
  • Two letters of reference from individuals, such as teachers/professors, counselors, or community leaders, who can attest to the candidate's meritorious performance and personal strengths and assess the nominee’s potential for success. One of the letters of reference must be from an academic instructor.

The Financial Aid Office will review the Randolph Hearst Scholarship Applications received to ensure that they meet all requirements and, in consultation with the campus President, will select and forward one nomination to the CSU Foundation.


Wilson C. Riles Scholarship

Amount: $1,000
Deadline: March 29, 2013

Criteria:

  • Student must be enrolled in California State University teacher credential programs, with preference given to first generation college students.
  • The minimum enrollment requirement is 6.0 units.
  • The minimum grade point average is 3.0
